Registration Agencies can request:

•the addition of new terms to the DOI Kernel Schema, or the publication of additional metadata schemas

•the addition of new values to open lists of values of the DOI Kernel Schema

Authority to make changes in the existing DOI schemas lies with the Schema Working Group. A fundamental role of the DOI Foundation is to provide assurance to users that the changes have been peer-reviewed, tested in practical implementations, and are based on sound principles.
